Cottage Details

The cottage has been recently upgraded to offer comfortable, high quality accommodation on two floors.

Downstairs is a spacious living room with wood burning stove and 50” smart TV with sound bar, coffee table and two large comfortable sofas.

This room looks out onto the small front garden and leads into a large, fully equipped dining kitchen with cosy aga, separate electric oven and hob, dishwasher, retro fridge, microwave, Nespresso machine, double Belfast sink and granite worktops.

An old church pew and farmhouse chairs seat up to 4 around the antique dining table.

The kitchen is open plan to the garden room with comfy sofa to relax with a good book or rest weary legs after a days walking or cycling with a cup of tea or a beer.

The back door leads to the charming courtyard garden and the laundry room which houses the boiler, Belfast sink, washing machine, tumble drier and freezer. There is also a pulley airer for drying wet outdoor clothes and space to dry wet walking boots and wellies etc.

A further small outhouse has storage for outdoor table and chairs and a tap and hosepipe for cleaning muddy dogs and boots outside.

In the kitchen plenty of tea towels, hand towel, oven gloves, apron and kitchen roll are provided. Also  washing up liquid, dishwasher tablets, essential cleaning products, cooking oil, salt and pepper mills, Yorkshire tea bags, instant coffee, and sugar. Plus a starter supply of coffee pods for the Nespresso machine.

Upstairs is the large, restful master bedroom with two windows overlooking the village, feature fireplace, quality super king size bed, antique Dutch wardrobe, chest of drawers, bedside tables, armchair and smart TV.

A second, smaller double bedroom has beautiful views across fields and up the vale, where sheep, cattle and horses graze. This bedroom has two single beds which can be joined to make a super king size bed if requested, bedside tables, wardrobe and chest of drawers.

The newly fitted shower room has a large, luxury walk in Grohe shower with rain head and separate hand held attachment, WC, basin with vanity unit below and heated towel rail. The tiled floor has underfloor heating and the bathroom shares the lovely views of the second bedroom up the vale.

The bed linen is 100% crisp white 300TC cotton, with a choice of pillows and extra blankets if required.

The towels are soft and fluffy top hotel quality, with large bath sheets, hand towels and face cloths. Bath robes and complementary slippers are also provided for your use. Complementary Scottish Fine Soaps toiletries include hair and body wash, conditioner, hand wash and moisturiser. Hairdryers are provided in both bedrooms.

Outside, to the front is a small, pretty, front garden with roses and clematis. To the rear is an open fronted garage, for guests use, accessed via the lane at the side of No 6. The lane leads along to the back gate and enclosed gravelled courtyard garden, a relaxing place to sit, with table and chairs for al fresco dining.

A bbq is available on request.

Opposite the back gate is a large lockable shed for bike storage if required.

There is also free on street parking at the front.

The cottage is warm and cosy all year round, with new double glazed wood sash windows, oil central heating throughout, a wood-burner in the sitting room and aga in the kitchen.

A starter basket of logs is provided for the woodburner at the start of each let. Thereafter, additional supplies can be purchased from us for a small charge or from various local outlets. The wood burner burns purely wood, no coal or other fuels.

A guest welcome pack includes freshly baked bread, homemade jam or marmalade, butter, milk, local treats, and fresh farm hen or duck eggs, (when available, depending on time of year and how obliging our ladies are feeling!)

  • Up to two fully house trained, well behaved adult dogs are welcome by prior arrangement only, and at an additional charge of £25 per stay.
  • A doggie welcome pack is provided, with spare feed and water bowls, dog towels, dog biscuits and a supply of poo bags if you forget them.
  • Please bring your own dog beds/bedding.
  • Dogs are not allowed upstairs or on the furniture and must not be left unattended in the property, or garden, under any circumstances.
  • There are several places to walk your dogs straight from the door, but please do not allow your dogs to toilet in the courtyard or along the back lane and please clean up after your pets.
  • Please ensure your dogs vaccinations and flea treatment are fully up to date.
  • The North York Moors is generally a very dog friendly area and you will find plenty of establishments that welcome dogs, but please observe the Countryside Code, close all gates and keep your pets on a lead at all times around livestock.

Arrival is between 4pm and 8pm.

Departure is by 10am.

Please stick to these times to allow us sufficient time to carry out the enhanced cleaning procedures and ventilation of the cottage in line with the Government COVID-19 guidelines, to help keep everyone safe.

Check in is via sanitised key safe, but please let me know if you’ll be arriving after dark and I will make sure the lights are on for you. Our farm is nearby, so I am on hand to deal with any queries, requests or problems you may have at any time during your stay. We want you to enjoy the best that North Yorkshire has to offer and there is an information folder in the cottage, but please don’t hesitate to contact me if there is anything else you’d like to know prior to your arrival.

The cottage is unlikely to be suitable for wheelchair users or those with limited mobility as the bedrooms and bathroom are on the first floor and unfortunately, there is no lift.

We strive to use local produce and make Old Bald Peg as eco friendly and sustainable as possible, but we are currently, far from ideal. It is our intention to convert to more green energy sources over the next few years, but in the meantime we have tried  to implement energy saving measures where possible. The cottage has loft insulation and new, sustainably sourced wood double glazing. We use eco friendly cleaning and washing products as far as possible ( although Covid-19 guidelines do require some viricidal products), and all our paper products are bamboo or recycled paper. We have reduced plastic use as far as possible and will continue to do so.  We want you to have a warm and comfortable stay at Old Bald Peg, but would encourage visitors to use energy sensibly and to recycle if possible.
